On Sunday, March 17th, The Paper Dolls (Emily and Heather Marie) started recording a new album. With the help of Roderick Fransham, we laid down 14 basic tracks (consisting of original and cover material.
We Dolls were inspired by Emily’s resent trip to Hitsville U.S.A (Motown Studios) On the tour of the recording studio, Emily learned some of the process in which Motown Artists recorded. Emily and I have been singing together for over 15 years, and in all the times we have recorded, we have learned the most comfortable way for us to do so, is The Old School Way!
Uni and her Ukelele will be performing at Mondavi Center’s Corin Courtyard from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Friday, April 12, 2013. There will also be a Ukulele Sing-a-long! This event will be a play-along rehearsal for the “Relentlessly In C,” a number to be performed along with The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain during the performance that follows. Additional sheet music for other numbers will also be provided.
Renowned for its “perfectly polished professionalism, threaded through with dry wit and wry humor” (The Independent), The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players (the clue is in the name), which holds that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the ukulele. With instruments small and large, in high and low registers, whether playing intricate melodies, simple tunes or complex chords, the ensemble wields the limitations of the instrument with virtuosic expertise, revealing unsuspected musical insight. With cheerful nods to the pompous and the trivial, the “Ukes” performances are at once moving and amusing, hailing the popular and the highbrow.
Nick Stargu and I were approached to make a video to pitch to Clorox. We were given a theme. We wrote the theme tune, sang the theme tune, created the whole video. The whole shebang. They said they wanted it to be “us”, but perhaps did not understand what that meant. They “decided to go in another direction”. Maybe someone else will recognise our blessed talents and hire us.
